Companies Promising Debt Relief May Really Only Be Offering Bankruptcy!
By Pamela Stewart on Apr 20, 2008 in Economy
Consumer debt is an all-time high. The cause may be the result of an illness, unemployment, or over-spending. Whatever the reason, it can be overwhelming. But don’t get tricked by offers of quick fixes. While many ads pitch the promise of debt relief, rarely do they spell out that what they are really offering is bankruptcy. Watch out for ads that say “Wipe out your debts! Consolidate your bills! How? By using the protection and assistance provided by federal law” or “Keep Your Property” of Consolidate your bills into one monthly payment without borrowing.” I have had clients who were mislead by such advertising, including advertising by attorneys. If you are in over your head with debt, before deciding on a course of action, consult with an experienced bankruptcy attorney to find out what your options out.
